P Taxes on Mobile Phone increased to Up to Rs. 1,500

Government of Pakistan has increased taxes on mobile phones. This was announced in the federal budget for 2016-17. As per initial details, mobile phone,  based on their feature sets — will be taxed at Rs. 300, 1,000 and 1,500.

Earlier on taxes on Mobile phones were Rs. 300, Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 based on their feature sets.

It won’t be out of place to mention that federal government had doubled the taxes on mobile phone just last year. And now they have increased the taxes yet again.

It must be recalled that country is currently embarking smartphone uptake. Smartphone penetration has doubled to an estimated 35 to 40% in less than two years after the start of 3G and 4G services in the country.
